Winter can limit the spice of Tahoe life. It pains me to say it, being a two-decade plus snow enthusiast who would vote for a 10-month winter if he could, but the snow can blanket (pun intended) our outdoor outlets. And no, there is no complaining going on about the regular wallopings we have received lately; but, as we come barreling through March, it’s nice to appreciate the non-traditional offerings.
In the sports realm, for a month that many consider the apex of ski season, we tried to unturn a few lesser-jostled stones outside of the pow kingdom. We look at the wild horse issue in Nevada (here), where more than half of the country’s mustangs reside, as well as the adrenaline junkie antithesis activity of ping pong (here).
We are also excited to announce the winners of our 2016 Tahoe Canvas contest (here), where artists submitted a record 131 entries ranging from bamboo-bodied bikes to passages from full-length novels, showing the area’s depth of creativity.
To continue our housing series, we examine the region’s housing past and offer a glimpse of how we got into this crisis (here); and we take a trip to Cuba, a place quite distinct from our American alpine homes (here).
But snow-centered adventure is far from over, so don’t pack it up yet. We hope to get an extended spring ski season from a fat and thick snowpack, as well as enjoy ever-lengthening days that will allow for the dozens of other prized Tahoe activities to become available. Sounds like a winning combo.
