Federal Cuts Will Hurt
Cutting the federal budget “to the bone” will ripple through the economy, affecting the private sector in many ways. On the upside, the collapse of tourism may help alleviate the housing, transportation, and overcrowding problems at Lake Tahoe.

Discussed at Kiley’s Virtual Town Hall
There was a farmer from Yuba City on Kevin Kiley’s prior town hall phone call. Not sure if he got any traction as he provided fresh produce to the schools and his grants were all cut off. He wanted Kevin to help as there were many rural farmers in the same situation in Yuba City who were unable to make a living. Not sure why these valuable programs are now being axed by Musk or if he even knows the ramification of who benefits from these.

Burying the Lead
Don’t get me wrong, the canine fitness cover photo is great. But don’t you think North Lake Tahoe possibly becoming an incorporated town is the lead story? It’s the first I’ve heard of the effort. Granted we live in Reno and my beautiful wife who spent 20 years in Truckee still subscribes to Moonshine, which we both greatly enjoy.

Anger Blocks Rational Thinking
When anger motivates us away from positions of complacency, it does good. I agree with you so strongly that only through rational thinking can we get anywhere reasonable. And I think the value there is, when we’re thinking clearly and rationally, we’re less likely to get into situations where we need to get angry. Nice timely perspective, Mayumi Peacock.

How Will a New Town Help?
I’ve struggled to see how creating a new local government would be able to address the needs of the diverse communities included in this study area, but I am a little jaded on the effectiveness of democracy these days. If it were up to me, I would mandate that the council members function more like representatives of their respective communities. Five distinct regions stand out. Of course, the boundaries of each representative district would be contentious and be subject to political redistricting. The two ski resort districts include the roadways impacted by their use.

About the Trump Administration
Witnessing the Rise of Fascism in the U.S.
I was born 3 weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and shortly after that tragic event, the United States entered World War II to combat Germany and Japan. Germany was controlled by a fascist dictator and Japan was controlled by an emperor.
What I am witnessing now in the U.S. is a very similar political climate to the 1930s and 1940s of Germany and Japan. It is being orchestrated by Donald Trump, an adjudicated criminal, and his billionaire friends.
I am not speaking as a Democrat, but rather as a true patriot who believes in the rule of law and the Constitution. I hope and pray that the Republicans in the Senate and Congress will stiffen their collective spines and hold this very dangerous man, Donald Trump, and his equally dangerous accomplice, the billionaire Elon Musk, to account.
