Every winter, visitors come to Truckee/Tahoe to experience snow, but maneuvering snowy and icy roads is not the same as driving on clear and dry streets. So, this month, Moonshine Ink photographer Jared Alden asked community members:
What advice and tips do you have for people new to driving in snow?

Good tires, take your time, and don’t let other people bully you. I use magnifeye.com for accessing live local Truckee/Tahoe traffic webcams as well as updated information on local road conditions.

If you’re a man, just man up; if you’re a lady, don’t, I’ll come pick you up. When driving, try to keep your RPMs high, slow down well before the turn, and don’t hit the brakes suddenly. If you hit an ice patch while FaceTiming your sister, just toss the phone.

Purchase snow tires, get new wiper-blades — visibility is key when you’re driving in snow. Clean your headlights, lift your front and back wipers when you park so the blades don’t get frozen stuck to the windshield. Also carry a shovel, first aid kit, water, extra boots, and jackets.
