With the holiday season upon us I thought it would be appropriate to write about the important things in life. Nothing is more important than getting family and friends together and going shopping. I waited all year and was a good dog so I could celebrate the most important holiday of all: Black Friday. I know it sounds bad, but I wasn’t out at Walmart pepper spraying customers so I could walk out with a sweet deal on a big-screen television. I was at the Gateway Shopping Center in Truckee for the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe’s Black Friday Adoption Event. Instead of deals on the new iPhone or Nintendo Wii, they had a store filled with great-looking dogs and cats. Eight happy shoppers walked away with a new friend. One thing I learned that day is that HSTT has way too many cats at their shelter. They have big cats, small cats, kittens, and even my favorite, a Maine Coon cat.
One special guy I met out shopping was Monty, a 6-year-old cat who loves affection. Whatever you celebrate this season, wouldn’t it be better with Monty? Monty makes a great lap warmer. He may also be able to provide some home protection — he weighs 15 pounds. That’s not a cat, that’s a mountain lion! While you are out shopping this season, consider bringing home more than just a new Xbox. Bring home a new friend. Seriously, help HSTT out; they are swimming in cats.
