Transcript

Hello again for another session of Moonshine Minutes. I’m Alex Hoeft, news reporter with Moonshine Ink.

Yesterday, Washoe County announced its second and third deaths related to COVID-19, a woman in her 30s and a woman in her 80s, both with underlying health conditions.

The county also reported the first positive case of a homeless individual, who accessed the Community Assistance Center and Reno Events Center before being diagnosed. This individual is now in quarantine housing.

Meanwhile, Tahoe Forest Health System reported yesterday that our frontline is being affected. Several TFH staff members have tested positive for COVID-19, and are all self-isolating at their homes.

As is seen elsewhere, healthcare workers becoming infected when caring for patients is common, said Tahoe Forest CEO Harry Weis, who expressed his thanks for the staff who continue to work hard.

Our team is putting everything we have on the line to provide our community with the best healthcare during this crisis.”

In other news, you may be stuck in, but you can still take out! If you’re interested in eating and want to support local businesses, be sure to bookmark our list of restaurants and eateries providing take-out and delivery services. The list is regularly updated and includes everything from grocery stores to liquor and wine, from Italian and Thai cuisine to sushi bars and delicatessens. You can even find info about your neighborhood food markets. Recent additions include: Lanza’s Restaurant, Poke On The Lake, River Ranch Lodge, and Zander’s Spirits. Check out our online piece titled Where to Get Tahoe/Truckee Food in the Age of Coronavirus at moonshineink.com/coronavirus-food.

And later this week we’ll share a question-and-answer piece we did with Nevada County’s epidemiologist, Holly Whittaker, who has a MS in epidemiology and investigates the causes and patterns of disease in humans.

We’ll have her insight on whether California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s projection that 56% of Californians will get the disease is still accurate and on the status of  testing efforts in Nevada County — how many tests have been conducted and how many we still have in stock..

As news continues to swirl, we’re constantly updating our website with the latest regional information on the novel coronavirus. Visit moonshineink.com/coronavirus-updates.

And keep up with all of our Moonshine Minutes at moonshineink.com — that’s ink with a ‘k’. And thanks to KTKE for letting us add our reporting to the great work they do over here.

That’s all for today’s Moonshine Minutes. Stay healthy out there, folks.
