Moonshine Ink Anonymity Policy

Moonshine Ink strongly believes in fostering civil discourse throughout its reporting and storytelling across all mediums. We also believe those conversations are healthiest and most accountable when conducted openly and, whenever possible, with real names attached.

As journalists, we encourage people to share their opinions, viewpoints, and lived experiences along with their names as long as doing so does not place them at genuine risk. Transparency strengthens truth, accountability, and credibility — both individually and community-wide.

Moonshine Ink grants anonymity sparingly and only when a source demonstrates that being publicly identified could reasonably result in serious retaliation or harm. This may include threats such as job loss, legal consequences, harassment, or physical danger.

What this does not include: your neighbors or friends being mad at you. Fear of disagreement, criticism, social discomfort, or reputational friction alone generally does not meet our standard for anonymity.
