The Great Ski Race

Since 1977, cross-country skiers have scooted along historic logging trails and postal routes above Tahoe City and Truckee in pursuit of the highly coveted titles “winners of The Great Ski Race.” Skiers have included Olympians and the best (and worst) local athletes, as well as people living anywhere from Grass Valley to San Francisco, Reno, Switzerland, and Norway. The race is a fundraiser for the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team.

Recently, team members created a new main route, a 26k-loop that begins and ends at Tahoe Cross-Country Ski Center (Tahoe XC). This year there is also a short 10k race course that tours inside the Tahoe XC boundaries. Signing up for either gets you a t-shirt and food and drink stations as well as lunch, drinks, and live music at the finish-line party. Register for either course at thegreatskirace.com.
