The bay area’s rocking and rolling Renegade Orchestra performs at the Valhalla Boathouse Theater Aug 10
The Renegade Orchestra began with an idea that local symphonies are full of outstanding players who never get their moment to shine, and rarely get to rock out. At the Valhalla Boathouse Theater on Aug 10, the Renegade Orchestra will show off their ability to throw off the classical music straight jacket and let their collective hair down.
The Napa Valley Register describes the group, “…expect the unexpected, or better yet, leave your expectations at the door and go in prepared for a ride.” The orchestra really does take the listener on an unexpected journey, bouncing from Jimi Hendrix to Nina Simone with stopovers in Cuba and with a piece the orchestra describes as, “What Bach would have written if he had a rhythm section.”
The 20 piece orchestra consists of a standard string section paired with a hard hitting rhythm section. “We don’t do any overly lush, cheesy arrangements,” says conductor Jason Eckl, “imagine the skill of these amazing string players turned loose on everyone’s favorite rock songs.”
The concert at the Valhalla Boathouse Theater starts at 7:30. Tickets can be found at RenegadeOrchestra.com
