RockRose Risk, the insurance brokerage getting property owners discounts for wildfire mitigation, announced the successful renewal of commercial property insurance coverage for McCloud Condominium, the largest homeowners association in North Lake Tahoe. The renewal marks the second consecutive year McCloud, RockRose Risk, and local mitigation partners have translated ongoing wildfire resilience work into lower insurance costs, demonstrating that communities that continuously invest in wildfire mitigation can continue earning insurance savings across multiple renewal cycles.

Five years ago, McCloud paid roughly $168,000 annually for insurance. As California’s insurance crisis intensified, creating a ripple effect in wildfire-prone regions like Nevada, the community’s premiums climbed to more than $1.3 million by June 2025. Last year, RockRose Risk reduced McCloud’s premium to $913,000, saving the association nearly $400,000 while expanding coverage and adding $2.5 million in new flood and earthquake protection.

After a second year of wildfire mitigation, including landscape-scale fuels treatment community-wide defensible-space work led by the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District in partnership with the Tahoe Fund’s Fire Smart Community Pilot and BurnBot, nearly $300,000 reinvested in parcel-level hardening, and an onsite Wildfire Hazard Assessment, McCloud renewed its insurance for approximately $414,000. That’s roughly 69% lower, or $925,000 less, than its June 2025 peak premium of $1.34 million. The association also reduced its wildfire and all-other-perils deductibles to $25,000 (from $250,000 and $100,000, respectively) while doubling its earthquake coverage to $5 million.

The renewal validates RockRose Risk’s long-term thesis that when wildfire risk is accurately measured, mitigated, and documented, insurers consistently reward that work across renewal cycles. It also reflects a shift in carrier behavior, with insurers that previously declined to quote the property now competing for the business based on its documented risk reduction.
