TRUCKEE

The Town of Truckee has once again been recognized by the California State Board of Forestry and Fire Protection as a Fire Risk Reduction Community, reaffirming the town’s commitment to proactive wildfire preparedness and community resilience.

On June 17, the board of forestry formally approved the 2026 Fire Risk Reduction Community List, a designation awarded to public agencies that demonstrate best practices in local fire planning and are located within a state responsibility area or a very high fire hazard severity zone.

Truckee is one of only 42 cities statewide included on the 2026 list. Other local agencies recognized this year include Nevada County, the Truckee Fire Protection District, and several neighboring jurisdictions.

The designation provides tangible benefits for the community. Communities on the Fire Risk Reduction Community List receive improved access to state wildfire mitigation grant programs and may help residents qualify for property insurance rate reductions.

The town encourages residents to contact their insurance brokers or agents to determine whether Truckee’s designation may result in insurance-related savings or other benefits.

The Fire Risk Reduction Community program was established in 2022, and the Town of Truckee has maintained its designation since 2024.
