As of May 1, the U.S. Forest Service has closed forestry land North of Truckee along Alder Creek and state Route 89 for a wildland urban interface project.

The project scoping began in 2022 with plans for fuel treatments, forest vegetation improvements, and timber sales through hand thinning and piling, chipping, mechanical removal of timber and slash, grapple piling, and prescribed fire. According to Tahoe National Forest Public Information Officer Lauren Faulkenberry, the goal is to treat vegetation and improve conditions on the 2,934-acre plot of land to reduce risk of wildfire.

The Truckee Ranger District is leading the project management with collaboration from contractors Sierra Pacific Industries and subcontractors Woodland Expansion, Inc.

The closure was issued for public safety.
