Nevada County Treasurer-Tax Collector Michelle Bodley announced that she will not seek election in 2026, concluding a distinguished 23-year career in county financial service. Bodley, who was appointed treasurer-tax collector in 2023, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed her commitment to excellence through the remainder of her term.

Bodley holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and began her county career in the auditor-controller’s office, where she developed expertise in accounting law, compliance, internal controls, and the separation of duties essential to safeguarding public funds.

Since her appointment as treasurer-tax collector, Bodley has overseen significant accomplishments, including:

• Record Investment Earnings: More than $28 million generated in interest earnings for schools, special districts, and county programs — without raising taxes.
• Strong Property Tax Collections: A sustained 98% secured tax collection rate, ensuring stable funding for public safety, education, and essential services.
• Tourism Revenue Growth: Record Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) collections, paired with streamlined administrative processes supporting the local tourism economy.
• Modernization Efforts: Leadership in the banking and settlement components of a new countywide financial system, improving accuracy, transparency, and real-time cash flow visibility.
• Statewide Policy Leadership: Representation of Nevada County on executive and legislative committees addressing tax administration and property-owner protections.
