TRUCKEE

At 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, a missing skier identified as 21-year-old Colin Kang was found deceased at Northstar California Resort. 

Kang had been reported missing to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office around 11 p.m. on Feb. 18. His vehicle was discovered in the Northstar parking lot, and an investigation determined he had gone skiing, but never returned. 

Early on Feb. 18, Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue along with Northstar Ski Patrol coordinated a search-and-rescue operation, discovering the deceased in a tree-well area on the mountain.

The death comes as the latest in a string of tragedies in Truckee, including two previous deaths at Northstar this month. Just four days prior, on Feb. 15, 53-year-old Stuart McLaughlin of Hillsborough was killed in a skiing accident.

That accident comes a little over a week after another fatal skiing accident on Feb. 6 involving 26-year-old Nicholas Kenworthy of Los Angeles.
