CALIFORNIA DISTRICT 3

On Jan. 22, two days before the shooting of Alex Pretti by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which runs ICE. Amongst those who voted yes on the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act (H.R.7147) was California District 3 Rep. Kevin Kiley. 

Kiley spoke in favor of the bill on Fox News, saying it would provide funding for body cameras and training for interactions with the public. Kiley pointed to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) receiving funding from H.R.7147 as well. He continued to say that other states aren’t having the same issues as Minnesota, which is a sanctuary state and therefore implies it won’t cooperate with ICE.

District 3 is one of five Republican-represented districts in the state that were realigned in November 2025 to incorporate more Democratic areas. This November, Kiley will be up for reelection to represent an area that sheds most of the red-leaning Eastern Sierra and incorporates more blue-leaning Sacramento County.
