TAHOE CITY
After opening its new store next to Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City on Dec. 20, California 89 is continuing to transform its business. On Jan. 24, California 89 and CA89 Home owner Lisa Gotts and her children, Ethan and Bella, decided to create their “FUCK ICE” shirt.
“This is what we believe in and we can’t stay silent any longer,” Gotts said.
Gotts said her family-run business has spoken up in the past and gives back to the community where it can. However, the new tees have pushed the boundaries of California 89’s advocacy further. She and her children have made their stance clear.
Proceeds from the shirts are going towards the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. Upon taking orders for the first run of the tees, California 89 received hundreds of orders. As it works to fulfill said orders, California 89 is taking more shirt requests via its Instagram @cahwy89, email info@california89.com, and phone (530) 214-8989.
“The response back was just amazing,” Gotts said. “People are just so thankful that we were making a stand and saying something and using our voice so that we can give back and we can do something. We can be heard.”
California 89 also supports the Tahoe Fund and Mountain Area Preservation, giving the proceeds from exclusive partnership items to the nonprofits.
