Tahoe is getting a personalized snow app. Richard Hwang, creator of SnowSignals, is launching his app for Tahoe/Truckee on Dec. 22, ahead of the anticipated Christmas storm. SnowSignals utilizes A.I. to predict changes in snow conditions across the mountain throughout the day.

According to Hwang, SnowSignals world’s first on-the-ground snow conditions forecast. He says the app is a tool that will allow users to make the most of their ski resort days by finding the best snow.

“SnowSignals Alpine Intelligence is our A.I. model that combines a physical world model, terrain-adjusted weather, and snow metamorphosis model to identify what happens to snow after it touches down on the ground,” Hwang said. “Effectively, we track the sun, wind, temps, snow, and more across a 3D model of the mountain to simulate physical effects including warming, cooling, melting, freezing, transport, scouring, and a whole lot more.”

Hwang said the snow conditions model was stress-tested against data points from more than five Tahoe seasons, which include drought, cold spells, melt-freeze periods, and storm cycles.
