Celebrating its 4th year in the festively freezing South Lake Tahoe, SnowGlobe Music Festival brought three days packed with energizing, dance-inducing sets from cutting edge electronic music producers from Dec. 29 to Dec. 31, 2014. Featuring Grammy Award-winners Zedd and Skrillex, among more than 50 other performers, the intimate venue was able to draw 14,000-plus attendees each day. Although the temperatures frequently hit single digits, festivalgoers quickly adapted to the unique alpine setting and found ways to bond over the challenge of partying in the snow.
One of my favorite moments happened while waiting for the shuttle bus taking us back to MontBleu on the second night. With the wind chill, temperatures were reported to “feel like” negative 5 degrees Fahrenheit and all anyone was interested in was finding their next warm destination. A group of friends waiting next to me, from New Zealand, were ranting about how one of their buddies always disappears. “Every single show he does this, right when we’re making moves!” Moments later, the friend in question showed up and surprised his group of comrades with fresh hot chocolate to which all angst was dissolved.
