“Right now I’m focusing particularly on a pop art aesthetic,” says artist Jusmark. “I was inspired by Andy Warhol and Peter Max when I was young, and it’s kind of a return to a style for me. I’m kind of an experimental artist. Mostly I paint, but I do all different kinds of stuff.”

Jusmark owns Truth Tattoo in Truckee and his paintings are featured at Art Obsessions Gallery (inside Art Truckee) for the month of August.

“Tattooing has always been really good for me because the demand is there to do all different kinds of work,” he said.

Jusmark began painting at 8 years old.

“I moved a lot, and it was always my thing before I made new friends,” he said. “There’s endless art out there to look at, so it’s been a source of entertainment, as well.”

The current show is inspired by his goal to paint one portrait of artists and performers per month for the next year.

“The thing … I’m really trying to produce here in the next year is nostalgia,” he said. “I really like doing these big, colorful pop art portraits of musicians and actors, or even things …  animals … whatever people have a nostalgic feeling about. The feeling of creating something — it’s been therapy and an antidepressant and the joy in the jungle gym of life.”
