Last year’s New Years Eve party at The Miners Foundry Cultural Center was momentarily derailed when the building’s power went out. Thankfully, the evening’s headliner, Achilles Wheel, stepped up to the plate and, with the help of the folks at the Miner’s Foundry, played an unforgettable acoustic set.
This year, The Miners Foundry and Paul Emery Music are presenting Mojo Green and Whee the People in a funk dance party of epic proportions.
Mojo Green hails from our neighboring metropolis of Reno and is best known as a seven-piece, horn-driven, soul-funk-machine. Their high-energy stage presence will get everyone on the dance floor shaking their thangs.
San Francisco-based Whee the People, the evening’s opening act, mixes classic soul sounds with contemporary pop and indie rock. The four-member group is self-proclaimed to “make you feel good enough to change the world.”
In addition to fantastic music, The Miners Foundry provides attendees with a full bar, on-site food from Bull of the Horn Taqueria, and a midnight champagne toast — included in price of the ticket.
If you are traveling from out of town and need a cozy (and safe) place to spend the night, then look no further than The Outside Inn or Broad Street Inn both located just a minutes from the cultural center.
And, if the prospect of a night you’ll never forget isn’t enough, The Miner’s Foundry is a beautiful 150-year-old building with original stonewalls, antique chandeliers, and a brand-spanking-new, sprung dance floor in their Osborn/Woods Hall. So, as if you weren’t already the world’s best dancer, just wait until you step foot on this thing, because it has been proven that a person’s dance skills improve exponentially with a few cocktails and a bouncy dance floor.
