Back on tour for more monkey tales, the humorist writer David Sedaris will be stopping in Grass Valley on Nov. 17 to deliver his trademark comedic delivery of jokes, book readings, and self-deprecating personal anecdotes.
Julie Baker, executive director of The Center of the Arts in Grass Valley, said Sedaris visited in 2012 and captivated the sold out venue.
“Your cheeks really hurt from laughing so much,” Baker said. “He’s a very smart, witty, insightful writer.”
If the book signing following the show mirrors his performance in 2012, Sedaris will sign unique and hilarious messages in every book he sees until the last novel has been wonderfully vandalized.
Sedaris is the author of numerous collections of short stories, including Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and When You Are Engulfed in Flames, as well as the novels Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice. His dry and irreverent satire of the human experience has put him on the bestseller list with nearly every publication. Sedaris is also an NPR humorist, regular contributor to The New Yorker, and thee-time Grammy Award nominee for Best Spoken Word Album and Best Comedy Album.
“With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers,” The Center for the Arts states on its website. “The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today.”
Baker said this event is geared toward a more mature crowd, and recommends attendees are over 16 years of age. Some (if not most) of Sedaris’s humor includes vulgar language and adult themes. Premium tickets to the event have already sold out and a limited amount of general attendance tickets are still available, so it is advised to book in advance.
