Action snowsport photography and video from around the world will highlight the 14th annual 'In The Mood' benefit for the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center at the Resort at Squaw Creek on Dec. 3. 'After all these years the event has grown from a cozy crowd to attracting over 600 people,' says Robert 'Fro' Frohlich, president of Snowtribe Productions. Fro, a cancer patient and co-organizer with Hank deVre for the charitable evening, added, 'It's a fun party, a celebration of the coming of winter, and a great way to give back to the community.'

The program showcases the talents of the biggest names in adventure photography and video, including filmmakers Mike Marvin, Scott Gaffney, Craig Beck, Tom Day, Mike and Dave Hatchett, and Brad Holmes; and photographers Tom Lippert, Keoki Flagg, Niobe Burden, Court Leve, and Hank deVre. 'It's seldom, if ever, to see this type of talent under one roof,' says deVre, whose imagery is annually featured in Powder, Ski, Skiing, and Ski Journal. 'Their images are today's forefront of snowsport photography.'

A highlight of the event will be a tribute to the late Squaw Valley resident and legendary adventurer Shane McConkey. Evening co-hosts are Resorts Sports Network Todd Offenbacher and Tahoetopia.com's Eric T. Brandt. An after-event party starts at 9 p.m. in the Resort's Sandy's Pub. Discount lodging is also available the night of the event.

Moonshine caught up with deVre to nail down some details:

Moonshine Ink: Who originally conceived of and organized In The Mood?
Hank deVre: Robert Frohlich first conceived of 'In the Mood' and brought me in to gather some of the local talented photographers and videographers to put together an event to get everyone in the mood for winter and to benefit some local charities.

MI: Is this the first year that 'In the Mood' will benefit Tahoe Forest Cancer Center?
HD: This is the first year that it will benefit the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center and this is because of Fro's battle with cancer. He has been helped by the wonderful people at the Cancer Center for over a year now.

MI:  Does the film fest attract lots of people from out of town or is it mostly a locals’ thing?
HD: It is more of a locals’ event because of the off-season, but I think that some 'part timers' do come up for it.

MI: What will the McConkey tribute consist of?
HD: For McConkey there will be a fitting tribute to an inspiring athlete and person done in video shorts and photos.

All ages are welcome and there is no admission charge. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. and beverages are available.
A huge raffle with over 150 prizes is also part of the night's festivities. The two grand prizes are a Squaw Valley USA adult season pass and Chugach Range heli-skiing at Points North in Cordova, Alaska. Other prizes include local resort day tickets, Pacific Crest Snowcat adventure, snowsport equipment, overnight lodging, gift certificates, and outdoor retail items. Raffle tickets may be purchased at the Cancer Center, Wolfdale's, Mamasake, all Tahoe Dave's locations, and will also be available at the event.

All proceeds benefit the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. Guests are also asked to donate a can of food at the door to support Truckee Community Christmas, Inc., a nonprofit association that feeds the less fortunate over the holidays.
