What’s Ripe Now: Everything is ahead of season with these warm temperatures. The late variety of peaches is already coming in and many farmers expect to be out by the end of August. Blueberries are also expected to end three weeks earlier than last year, and may be available only through the beginning of August. These abnormally high temperatures are also stressing greens and tomato crops.

What’s Sprouting Next: Specialty melons, like ambrosias and Israel melons, are beginning to show up. Hot peppers are about two weeks early as well.

Favorite Bloom: Eggplant, pluots, and nectarines are abundant and sweet. Time to visit local farmers markets and enjoy the great assortment of farm-fresh fruits and vegetables.

Sierra Valley Farms is located north of Sierraville in Beckwourth, Calif. The farm hosts the only on-farm farmers market in California every Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Sept. 19. Visit sierravalleyfarms.com for more info.
