There are multiple factors that make a restaurant kid friendly. You’ve got the classics — kids menu, high chair, coloring books — but there are many other elements that make a restaurant a desirable place to bring your little ones. We spoke with Amy Lyons, a mom of one, about some of her favorite places to take her kiddo. ~ Ally Gravina/Moonshine Ink

Red Truck

This is my daughter’s number one favorite spot in all of Tahoe thanks to the plain Naan Dog, the airplanes, the well maintained dog-friendly lawn, the playground, and the very friendly air traffic control guys and gals who hand out wooden gliders and wing stickers.

Alibi Ale Works

You can’t go wrong with the openness of this place. They offer kombucha and other non alcoholic drinks and the menu is appealing to a kid and adults. They also have giant playing cards and Connect Four games.

Cha Fine Teas

This place is where my husband and daughter choose to have their dates. She gets to pick out her own tea from their selection and they have coloring books and cards available. It is definitely a more reserved space for a mellow time, but they offer a friendly staff and atmosphere.

Coffeebar, Reno, Truckee, and Squaw

They have a kid-friendly oat milk lavender latte and plenty of space. The Truckee location’s outside area is a nice spot for a sunny day filled with dogs and other kids, and their food is great, too! The Squaw location is the perfect spot for a post-ski treat.

North Shore

Crest Cafe, Alpine Meadows

They have a menu full of options and delicious vanilla almond milk steamers. There is a large seating area and when weather is decent, a patio that looks over the Truckee River.

CB’s, Carnelian Bay

They have a great affordable kids menu, card games to play while you wait for your food, and a video game room.

West Shore Market, Tahoe City

This market frequently has Bingo on Wednesday nights which is fun for the whole family. They offer a kids menu and drink specials for the grown ups.

Laughing Planet

The kids menu is good, highlighted with the “Kids’ Trifecta” that lets you choose three different menu items. There are dinosaurs that adorn the tables, along with a wooden block table that allows kids to stay busy while food is being prepared. Also, our family enjoys the bottomless glass of ice tea.

Great Full Gardens

What makes this place kid friendly is the amazing staff. We’ve been here only a few times because it isn’t a “run around” kind of a place (tire the kids out at Discovery Museum first), but each time we’ve been very pleased with our experience. The TV screen on the wall acts like a replica of a jellyfish encounter and the menu is vast and delicious with lots of vegan and meat-eater options.
