The Store Copies and More Needs Us

Lisa Adams, the proud owner of The Store Copies and More, lost her lease in the little storefront between Truckee-Tahoe Lumber Co. and Barifot Mountain Photo a couple of months ago.

The owners of Barifot had decided to retire, and even though it meant losing her fantastic neighbors and friends, Lisa was excited about potentially expanding her business into the space. She confirmed with the owners of the building if she could not expand at this time, “Was she being asked to vacate?” Their response was a simple, “We would prefer that you stay and prosper.” However, there would be an increase in the rent to make a reasonable return on their investment.

Holiday time came and went and she weighed the new proposal, but determined that Tahoe City was still struggling and it wasn’t the time for her to expand. She decided to continue business as usual and remain where she was. The property owners asked Lisa for a plan for how she would be able to afford the higher rent. During a meeting, she showed she could meet the higher rent by bringing on previously excluded inventory that would have competed with Barifot. However, during this meeting, it was revealed that someone had approached the owners and offered more money toward the space. Lisa was asked if she could match the amount. She declined and was given notice to vacate.

Since then, Lisa luckily found a location, but now come the bigger questions: Where will she get extra funds to move? Each machine has to be professionally moved, plus there are the move-in costs. How to do all of this when the town’s economy is challenged? The shop that we all use and have counted on since forever may be lost.

Lisa has stood by our small, but loving family. She has given her time, her strength, and most importantly, her love. She needs our help, whether financially, physically, or emotionally.

Our community has always been built upon the successes of our neighbors. We take pride in taking care of each other through the good and the bad, and right now one of our neighbors is in a serious business crisis. Please reach out to her. Let her know and feel the love that she so freely gives to each and every one of us.
