Big advocates of citizens expressing their right to vote, Moonshine Ink chose to bring the local elections of 2016 to our readers in new media fashion. We filmed 60-second spots from every candidate in a contested Tahoe/Truckee race, with the exception of those candidates who chose not to participate. Candidates were allowed to use the 60 seconds however they chose — but they had to stick to the time. Below, we highlight a statement from each film spot that stood out to our team. Check out the full videos and be sure to share them as well.

Judy Friedman — incumbent

“This winter’s launch of the ice rink at the golf course is one more example of PUD responding to community request. And we’ve done all this while keeping rates below voter-approved Prop 218 levels.”

Ron Treabess — incumbent

“I’m a good listener, a solid leader, very respectful, quite prudent, and extremely experienced, and I bring loads of energy to the table.”

Scott Zumwalt

“I feel there are some major decisions and issues coming up in our community ... One of those being the shortage of workforce housing and I feel the PUD board can have a positive influence on the way that it is shaped.”

Chose not to participate:

Paul Joslin
