Big advocates of citizens expressing their right to vote, Moonshine Ink chose to bring the local elections of 2016 to our readers in new media fashion. We filmed 60-second spots from every candidate in a contested Tahoe/Truckee race, with the exception of those candidates who chose not to participate. Candidates were allowed to use the 60 seconds however they chose — but they had to stick to the time. Below, we highlight a statement from each film spot that stood out to our team. Check out the full videos and be sure to share them as well.

John Bergman — incumbent

“With the completion of the new ropes course and the dog park, and with over $350,000 in grant-funded capital improvements now underway at the regional park we are experiencing a recreational renaissance. My mission, if re-elected, is to solve its upper-end deficit.”

Sarah Coolidge

“I’m running because I care deeply about the future of our community and I want to collaborate with all of our local interest groups to find sustainable solutions for the issues we face. I’m also running because I believe in the power of fresh eyes and a new perspective.”

Phil Thompson — incumbent

“I bring to the board my construction experience and have saved the district hundreds of thousands of dollars on construction of our new office building alone. I question how every dollar is spent.”

Chose not to participate:
Tim Ferrell — incumbent
