The Odd Couple

In the Neil Simon play The Odd Couple two mismatched roommates — the sloppy Oscar and neat, uptight Felix — share an apartment after Felix is thrown out by his wife. The play has been revived several times and made into a hit television show. The latest incarnation of The Odd Couple is happening right now at the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe. The two newest roommates are cats Abu and Leo.

Can two cats share a room at the shelter without driving each other crazy?

Abu will have been at the shelter one year in June. He is classified as a bicolor tabby. Abu gets along well with people and dogs, but he can be picky with his cat friends. Abu is talkative, friendly, and active. Come visit him and he will hop right into your lap. Grab a brush, he loves to be groomed. Abu is even clicker-trained and enjoys walking on a leash. He got to hang out with the kids on movie night at the shelter and clearly enjoys the company of children.

His new roommate Leo is reserved, quiet, and loves to nap. Leo is an orange tabby. Orange kitties are known to have a fondness for napping. They typically live longer than other cats and 80 percent of them are male. I visited Leo and Abu and found them to indeed be an odd couple. Leo was half asleep complaining about Abu smoking cigars and leaving his cat toys all over the shelter. Abu countered that Leo never wants to do anything other than just lie around all day. Despite their issues Abu and Leo enjoy sharing a room together. What they both would really like is a place of their own. Abu and Leo are neutered, up-to-date on shots, and ready to move in with you.

If you are looking for a puppy, now is a great time to visit HSTT. There are about 20 puppies of various breeds, sizes, and shapes in foster homes right now. We even had our own litter of Chihuahua puppies at my house! We’re so happy to report that the Charlie’s Angels puppies named Kris, Sabrina, and Kelly have all found homes. If puppies aren’t your thing, we recommend a playful dog named Blaze. He’s a great Tahoe dog who loves to run, play, and then snuggle up at the end of the day.

If you are looking to start your own Odd Couple, stop by the shelter today. For more information, visit hstt.org.
