Hot Spot: Incline Village High School Presents "Grease"
March 17 to 20, 6 p.m.

Find out what happened to the Danny Zuko Sandy met at the beach when students from Incline Village High School go back in time to play out the fascinating lives of Danny, Sandy, Rizzo, Kenickie, and the rest of the gang of “Grease.” According to director Tom Canino, “This is the only musical the high school will be putting on this year. The drama class will put something on late in the spring, but that will not be a production on the scale of what we are doing for this musical. The students all auditioned for parts. Myself, Terry Pittman, the music teacher, one of the choreographers, and an English teacher conducted auditions and awarded parts back in November.”
The students will be performing all the familiar favorites, although Canino says it will be a bit tamer. “We edited out some language and some suggestive situations. The script is, frankly, a little raunchy for a high school play that lots of middle schoolers will attend, so we smoothed out some of the rough spots. All of the Broadway and movie music is still in there, and people will recognize all of the songs.”
In addition to Danny and Sandy, “Grease” lovers will recognize all the major parts — with a few twists, such as girls reprising traditional male roles. “We had some outstanding auditions this past November, and while we could have found boys for those parts, we had girls with strong enough auditions that we wanted to give them good parts. We think that in the way that we will use them they will make for some very entertaining songs and exchanges on stage,” says Canino. Not to be forgotten, it appears Incline High has quite the heartthrob on their hands with Jordan Cronin. “The young man has a presence, and he is a good draw,” says Canino. Cronin will appear in the role of Johnny Casino, the all-American rock-star student at Rydell High, who as the Teen Angel sings to Frenchy and urges her to go back to high school in the song “Beauty School Dropout.”
Alongside Cronin, Miles Buergin is Danny, and Sandy is played by Erin Canino. The T-Birds are Matt Davis (Kenickie), Kevin Wegener, Laurence Jolley, and Annamarie Marziliano. Erika Wegener (Rizzo) leads the Pink Ladies, which include Taylor Smith (Frenchy), Justine Nelson, and Dani Flores. Completing the cast are Chloe Bolton as Cha-cha, Madison Kwasny as Eugene, Chelsea Hollingsworth as cheerleader Patty Simcox, Katherine Lange as Miss Lynch, and Alec Flores as Vince Fontaine.
Grease is the word! “Grease” will be performed at 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, March 17 to 20, at the Incline High School Theater. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $6 for students. They can be purchased at The Potlatch in Incline Village or at the high school. Incline High School, 499 Village Blvd, Incline Village, (775) 832-4260
