Counterfeit bills passed at local businesses

The Placer County Sheriff's office is asking local businesses to be aware of counterfeit bills being passed to local merchants.

On Jan. 6, a suspect asked a Northstar parking attendant to change a $100 bill. The attendant did so, and realized the bill was fake after the suspect left.

On Jan. 20, at 1:15 p.m., a white male adult entered the Imprints business at the Resort at Squaw Creek and bought a women's knit hat. He passed a counterfeit $50 bill.

On Jan. 21, between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., a white male adult entered the Rainbow Bridge business in the Village at Squaw Valley and bought a crystal skull. He passed a counterfeit $50 bill.

Also on Jan. 21, at about 1:30 p.m., a white female entered the Eden business in the Village at Squaw Valley trying to pass a $50 bill. The clerk discovered with her test pen that the bill was counterfeit, and the suspect left the business.

Reno has had increased counterfeit bill passing activity in the last few days with several arrests. The Tahoe area may experience more counterfeit bill passing, specificially $50 and $100 bills. Please be diligent in checking large bills and contact PSCO right away if you suspect one of these crimes. Associated vehicle descriptions, plates, and directions of travel would also be helpful.

Basic suspect description

White male adult, 20 to 40 years old, 5-10 to 6 feet tall, medium build, dark hair, unshaven, dark clothes, dark sweat shirt, black ball cap with white writing. Possibly a "Grenade" brand hat with a white skeleton hand on its side. Possibly driving a black Ford F150 truck.

Female suspect is a white female adult, 20 to 30 years old, 5-5, 140 lbs., brown hair with blonde and purple streaks on the right side of her head. She stated she is a hair-dresser. Female is associated with a tan-colored Cadillac Escalade with unknown plates.
