The Glenshire General Store was robbed sometime after closing on January 2 and before 3 a.m. on January 3, when owner Tina Stull discovered the break-in.

Stull, who has owned the store for nearly 10 years, said that the store’s safe was broken into and the contents of the cash drawers were stolen along with cigarettes. She said that an alarm system and security cameras protect her store but that these measures were no match for the thieves.

“They seem to be a group of professionals,” she said. “They know how to take apart alarm systems.”

Stull was on her way to her second job at about 3 a.m. on the morning of January 3 when she saw a ladder leaning against the front of her store.

The store was also robbed in August 2008, and Stull believes it was the same perpetrators in both instances.

“To my knowledge, it was an organized group [in August 2008] and they were caught in Washoe County,” Stull said. “I heard that Washoe County released them on bail before the Truckee Police Department had a chance to interview them.”

Stull is angry to be the victim of a crime once again.

“I’m disgusted. I work 100-something hours a week,” Stull said. “I don’t appreciate that someone will take something that I have worked so hard for instead of getting a job themselves. … I’m already struggling because the economy has been bad.”

Stull said that while she has insurance, the increase to her deductible could make it harder for her to run a successful business.

Both the Truckee police and her customers have given her support, Stull said.

“The Truckee PD has been awesome. They’re pretty thorough,” she said. “We accidentally set off the new alarm system the other day and we had four cop cars here in five minutes.”

Stull said her experiences have made her more conscious of taking precautions, and hopes others in the community will do the same.

“People just need to be aware that people are coming up here from other towns and other cities and they need to lock their doors and their cars,” she said. “Just because we live in Truckee doesn’t mean we’re safe.”

Captain Randy Fenn of the Truckee Police Department is the investigating officer on this case. He was not available at press time.
