Tahoe Resorts Announce Big Winter Gains
The seven “Ski Lake Tahoe” resorts, which include Alpine Meadows, Heavenly, Kirkwood, Northstar, Mt. Rose, Sierra-at-Tahoe, and Squaw Valley, reported a 17 percent increase in skier visitation for the 2009-10 winter season. The increase was more than quadruple the national average reported by the National Ski Area Association. With some ski lifts operating from Halloween through the Fourth of July, skiers and snowboarders enjoyed an extended winter with over 600 inches of snow, nearly double the annual average snowfall total of other winter destinations. Early season skiers enjoyed top-to-bottom skiing thanks to early El Niņo storm systems and supplemental snowmaking. The spring months included persistent, powerful storms that allowed the resorts to finish the season with mid-winter conditions and base depths well over 100 inches. Info: skilaketahoe.com
