Wanderlust Festival descended on Squaw Valley USA for its second year July 29 through Aug. 1. Moonshine Ink’s Wellness & Learning scouts hit up the fun, and are happy to report that this year’s festival was healthy and happy. The relocation of most every event, besides a few yoga classes, to the base (last year, music and vendors were up at High Camp) made for a more holistic, community feel. The new Wellness Village — cabanas constructed of sustainable bamboo offering massage, bodywork, and acupuncture — was a highlight, as was the new food co-op, which surely cured our hunger pangs from last year’s food-deprived festival.

We also can’t forget about the amazing Village Anusara. Every direction we swirled our heads was met with wonder. From a four-walled art gallery to the mysterious Nomad tent, from Gerard the swinging aerial trapeze artist to the tea tent, from the 60-foot geodesic meditation dome to the live mural painted before our very eyes, Village Anusara was a metaphysical delight for all five senses.

The festival brought us even more learning this year by adding to its programming the Speakeasy Lecture Series, which integrated some of the biggest names of the weekend and was free to all music and yoga ticket holders. Did any of you catch Moby’s talk, “May All Beings Be Free of Suffering: Why I Am Vegan”? Or arguably the world’s strongest rock climber, Chris Sharma, speak on :Moving Meditation”? We’d love to hear about it in our online comments. (We simply couldn’t fit it all in!) We’ll see you next year, Wanderlust!
