Nevada City Film Festival
Aug. 19 to 22
Published: August 15, 2010
Combining stellar programming of short- and full-length films, great audiences, and a truly festive environment, the 10th Annual Nevada City Film Festival is scheduled to hit Nevada City starting Thursday, Aug. 19 continuing on through Sunday, Aug. 22. This year the festival will screen over 40 films, including comedies, dramas, documentaries, and international shorts, in a variety of historic locations. In addition, a dozen or more filmmakers will be in attendance to answer questions from the audience after each of their films.
This year's special guests are Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim of the cult television show “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” Together they will be presenting a special screening of shorts and music videos from the show. Heidecker will also headline the festival’s Comedy Show. This festival favorite sold out last year and features DJ Douggpound, Duncan Trussell, Johnny Pemberton, and Howard Kremer, aka Dragon Boy Suede.
“The New Year” is this year’s opening night film. It tells the story of one-time high school valedictorian and “most likely to succeed,” beautiful bookworm Sunny, who now finds herself stuck in Pensacola, Fla., in her mid-twenties, working at a bowling alley and caring for her terminally ill father. Following the film will be a Q&A with actress Trieste Kelly Dunn and Director Brett Haley. Also screening at this year’s film festival is “MARS” directed by Geoff Marslett. This romantic comedy is told in the style of a graphic novel — using a unique animation process that developed specifically for the film. Underneath the silliness, “MARS” is also an exploration of exploration. Marslett will also be on hand to answer questions after his film.
