He’s been called “Johnny Cash, Jim Harrison and Charles Bukowski all rolled into one,” he’s written a Scandanavian detective novel, and he’s recognized as one of the most authentic voices in American music.

This summer he’ll bring his guitar and a catalogue of songs that span 25 albums — and have been recorded by the likes of Johnny Cash — for an August 13 concert on the beach at Kings Beach.

His latest album “Blood and Candle Smoke” was released in 2009 to critical acclaim, and deals in the earthy, iconic images of the blue-collar America of yesteryear — buffalo, locomotives and cattle. His West-rooted folk/blues/rock and songwriting that focuses on the hardscrabble edges of society have earned him comparisons to Tom Waits.

The concert is part of the Breaking Boundaries series fundraiser for READ Global, a nonprofit that has built 50 libraries and community centers in Nepal, India, and Bhutan over the past 19 years.

READ Global is supported by Incline Village-based travel company Myths and Mountains, which is hosting the concert.
