Poet Brian Turner Joins SNC English Program

Sierra Nevada College welcomes Brian Turner to its English program beginning fall 2010. Turner is the author of the acclaimed poetry collection “Here, Bullet,” winner of the 2005 Beatrice Hawley Award, a Northern California Book Award, a PEN Center USA Award in Poetry, and a place on The New York Times “Editor’s Choice” selection. Turner will teach freshman through senior writing and poetry courses. His multifaceted background includes earning an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon, after which he lived in South Korea for a year before serving for seven years in the U.S. Army. He served in Bosnia Herzegovina and more recently in Iraq, where he was an infantry team leader in the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team. Currently, Turner is traveling the globe as a result of winning the 2009 Amy Lowell Traveling Scholarship, a highly competitive award for distinguished writers.
