Freefalling: The day started off nice enough for the Nissan Freeride World Tour event at Squaw on Feb. 28. The sun was out, and the competitors were lined up and ready near Tower One with the forbidden fruit of the infamous Tram Face enticing them from below. Everything was good to go. Then something went — the side of the mountain. A spontaneous avalanche released across the cliffs and rumbled down towards the valley floor as competitors and onlookers watched in awe and delight. Fortunately no one was injured in the slide. So much for the Tram Face. The event was held the next day on Silverado terrain instead.
