The San Francisco Independent Film Festival returns to Sugar Bowl Resort to screen four critically acclaimed films and one award-winning locally produced documentary at the Judah Lodge. Films will be screened at 7 and 9 p.m. both nights, with the local documentary “Open Space” screened between the two feature-length films on Saturday night. Two films, “My Movie Girl” and “Open Space,” will include special introductions plus question and answer sessions with directors and cast. All movies are free to the public, and all attendees will receive a free 2009/10 Daily CORE Pass to Sugar Bowl, a $19 value. The four independent films to be screened at Sugar Bowl were selected from over 25 titles by event producers from the SF Indie Film Fest, held Feb. 4 to 18 in San Francisco.

The selected titles, overviews, and screening times for the 2nd annual San Francisco Independent Film Festival at Sugar Bowl Resort are:

“My Movie Girl”

Friday Feb. 26, 7 p.m.
Everything Adam knows about love, he learned from the movies. Unfortunately, Adam is no Cary Grant, and the closest he’s come to experiencing true romance is one drunken night with his unrequited crush, Kate. This film will include a special Q&A session with the film’s director Adam Bronstein.

“Beyond the Pole”

Friday Feb. 26, 9 p.m.
As the first-ever carbon neutral, vegetarian, organic travelers to the North Pole, Mark and Brian have high hopes of doing their bit for global warming, and perhaps getting into Guinness World Records.

“Last Son”
Saturday Feb. 27, 7 p.m.
How did Cleveland teens Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster devise Superman, the first comic superhero, and — second to a certain mouse — the most popular fictional character in the world? Last Son tells the tale, uncovering a new source for the very first Superman story (which was rejected for years) and solving the mystery of the lovely Lois Lane.

“Open Space”

Saturday Feb. 27, 8:20 p.m.
Mike Basich is one of snowboarding’s most iconic legends. His 25 years of professional snowboarding have taken him around the globe, and his influence on the sport is just as far reaching. While that is impressive in and of itself, this story is even more inspirational given the tremendous odds Basich had to overcome early in life. This documentary screening will include a special introduction by director Dalton Paley.

“Point Traverse”
Saturday Feb. 27, 9 p.m.
An encounter with an ill-fated loner creates parallel stories for two childhood friends. Adwin leads a solitary, structured life as the manager of a restaurant in a small town. Meanwhile, Cael fantasizes about life in the city but finds it hard commit, preferring to aimlessly wander the globe in faint hope of something better. After a chance encounter with an ill-fated loner, the two friends embark on a journey of self-discovery, learning that their lonely independence might be overrated.
