Transworld TransAm
Saturday March 6
Trans World SNOWboarding Magazine is proud to be hosting the fifth stop of the 2010 TransWorld SNOWboarding TransAM tour at Northstar-at-Tahoe. This freestyle snowboard contest will gather some of the most progressive amateur riders in the country for a fun, jam-style competition. Winners at each contest receive a huge prize pack. Ultimate Boarder Championship

March 18 to 19
The Ultimate Boarder Championship, the board sport triathlon, is a one-week competition focused on showcasing the talent of athletes who can conquer the arts of snowboarding, surfing, and skateboarding. The event is open to male and female solo competitors including a youth division, as well as teams of three, with each participant competing in one of the three disciplines. The competition kicks off with snowboarding at Northstar on March 18 and 19. Immediately following will be the skate and surf elements. The skate portion will take place on March 20 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, and the surf portion will follow in San Diego. The event will also include concert performances, an action sports film festival, live television coverage and a surf, skate and snow consumer expo. Info: ultimateboarder.com.

Introduction to Biathlon Clinic
Friday Feb. 26
Come learn a rarefied Olympic sport at Northstar-at-Tahoe’s Introduction to Biathlon Clinic. The clinic will be led by Glenn Jobe, a 1980 U.S. Biathlon Olympic Team member, and will cover the basics of both skiing and biathlon target shooting. The course will be held at Northstar’s Cross-Country Ski, Telemark & Snowshoe Center from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The clinic costs $60 and includes a trail pass, instruction, and a rifle. Nissan Tram Face at Squaw
Feb. 27 to March 5
The world’s top international skiers and snowboarders will descend on Squaw Valley for the Freeride World Tour’s Nissan Tram Face contest. Last year’s FWT event was slated to be the first-ever Tram Face opening, but a massive snowstorm moved the competition to Squaw’s Silverado bowl and pushed the first legal opening of the Tram Face to 2010. Five locals are currently on the start list for the 2010 competition: JT Holmes, Tim Dutton, Cody Townsend, Elyse Saugsted, and Jeremy Jones. Shred with Sessions at Northstar
Feb. 27 and 28
Come to Northstar-at-Tahoe to meet and take some laps with the Sessions snowboard and ski team pros. Some of the pros that will be in attendance are Tara Dakides, Andreas Gidlund, Ian Thorley, Kyle Miller, Taylor Carlton, Nial Romanek, Brett Butcher, Andy Mahre, Dania Asslay, and Matt Walker. Great Ski Race Registration Now Open Online
Sunday March 7
The 34th annual Great Ski Race returns to North Tahoe. The 30-km race starts in Tahoe City, finishes in Truckee, and continues to be one of the largest Nordic ski races west of the Mississippi — drawing over 800 racers each year. All proceeds from the event help fund the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team, a nonprofit all-volunteer organization. Online registration is now open with a race fee of $45. Race day registration will also be available for $65. Entry fee includes a pre-race package, event T-shirt, plus refreshments, hot lunch, and live music at the finish. Info: thegreatskirace.com
 
Silver Belt Banzai at Sugar Bowl
March 13 and 14
Top freeride skiers from across the globe will descend upon Sugar Bowl for this progressive event coupling the energy and tactics of skicross with the action and excitement of a traditional downhill race. Starting atop the famed Silver Belt run, racers will launch out of the gate in six-man heats with minimal rules but to stay on-course and finish in the top two to advance. Up to 100 qualifying and invited skiers of all ages will race for upwards of $5,000 in cash and prizes, with on-mountain and after-event parties, live music, and prize giveaways for all attending.

Qualifying skiers will compete in heats on Saturday to earn a spot in Sunday’s finals race. Entry fees are $100 per qualifying racer. Info: (530) 426-7201, sugarbowl.com
