Cottonwood Hosts "Live Music For Haiti" Benefit
Wednesday, Feb. 3
Pianist and singer Akiko (Colleen Akiko Jackson) and many other local musicians will offer their talents to support emergency relief efforts in Haiti. All tips from the night and a special donation from Cottonwood Restaurant will be sent immediately to help in the aftermath of Haiti’s earthquake. Additionally, Cottonwood Chef David Smith is offering some Caribbean-influenced menu items in honor of the event. Truckee Rotary is accepting monetary donations to help the Haitian relief effort which will be directed towards Shelter Box, a project of Rotary International. Shelter Box provides pre-assembled boxes to disaster victims containing everything from tents and cooking stoves to school supplies, tools, mosquito netting, water purification tablets and collapsible water containers. Each box can supply up to 10 people. The Shelter Box project already has three locations on the ground in Haiti.

Squeeze In is donating 10 percent of all dining profits from Jan. 25 through Jan. 29 from their locations in Truckee and Reno to the Salvation Army’s Haitian relief efforts.
In addition to the proceeds from dining purchases, Squeeze In owners Gary and Misty Young and Shila and Chad Morris will personally match the dining dollars up to an additional $500 from each couple to double the contribution. Dining patrons can also make additional matching contributions by adding a separate check made out to Salvation Army or an extra cash donation to their dining ticket. United Way of Nevada County is working with United Way Worldwide and its its members and other partners in Haiti to respond to this disaster. Gifts to the United Way Worldwide Disaster Fund support recovery and long-term rebuilding needs of devastated Haitian communities.
