The 1960 Olympic Games thrust Squaw Valley and North Lake Tahoe on to the international stage and established the area as one of the premier destinations in the world for winter recreation. On the 50th anniversary of those Games, the Squaw Valley Ski Museum celebrates its launch with the Olympic Heritage Celebration as its inaugural program. Olympians past and present, reenacted events, and sporting competitions highlight the schedule. Recapture the Olympic spirit at any of these events during the Olympic Heritage Celebration through Jan. 14.

Tuesday January 12
From Long Boards to the Olympics lecture by Mark McLaughlin, at the Resort at Squaw Creek, 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday January 13
Elementary School Cross Country Day at Sugar Pine Point State Park, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Olympian Guided Tour of 1960 Women’s Downhill Course meet at the top of KT-22 lift at Squaw Valley USA at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Thursday January 14
1960 Historic Walking Tour by the Squaw Valley Institute, 9 a.m. at Squaw Valley Chapel.
Youth Hockey at Squaw Valley’s High Camp, El. 8200’ at 3 p.m.
Hockey Expo at Squaw Valley’s High Camp, El. 8200’ at 4 p.m.
Hockey Dinner: A Tribute to the 1960 Olympic Team A family-oriented dinner with Olympians from the 1960 gold medal team and screening of a new documentary about the 1960 team. 6:30 p.m, $29.00/Adults, $15.00/Children, Vertical Tasting Lounge, Squaw Valley.

Friday January 15

Scholastic (CNISSF) Nordic Race at Sugar Pine Point State Park, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Figure Skating Exhibition at the Resort at Squaw Creek, 3 p.m.
“Skate & Taste” with Peggy Fleming followed by Winemaker’s Dinner at the Resort at Squaw Creek, 4 to 5:15 p.m.
Snowboard Rail Jam at the base of Big Springs Gondola, the Village at Northstar, 5 to 7 p.m.
Nordic Olympian Dinner Community event honoring athletes from the 1960 team with rare film footage and photographs. 6 p.m., $29.00/Adults, $15.00/Children, Granlibakken Resort.

Saturday January 16
