Pottery Classes at T Pots Pottery
If you are interested in learning to throw clay on a wheel, T Pots has a class for you. Everything you need (except a hand towel) is included in the cost of the class. Beginning wheel throwing classes meet once a week for three weeks. This is the class to learn the basics of wheel thrown pottery and starting out with good habits. Skills taught include: wedging clay, centering, and pulling clay on the potter’s wheel. The next class starts Sunday, Feb. 21, and runs through March 7 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; cost is $115. An intermediate wheel throwing class is for those who feel comfortable with basic throwing (centering and throwing cylinder and bowl shapes). Intermediate/ advanced students will be learning more advanced functional and decorative projects such as dinnerware, lidded jars and casseroles, goblets, two-piece vases, etc. The next class starts Tuesday, March 2, and runs through March 16, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.; cost is $115. Geared toward the intermediate to advanced potter, this class will play around with altering thrown forms creating functional pottery. Some pieces will be altered on the wheel, while others will be spliced and diced at the leather-hard stage. Skills taught will include: improving throwing technique with considerations for altering the thrown form, making strong attachments and using tools for texture. A Gathering of Art
Wednesday Feb. 17
Because artists and novice artists are often alone creating their artwork, “A Gathering of Art” is an opportunity to work on individual projects yet be with others at the same time.  On the first and third Wednesdays of every month, the Corison Loft at North Tahoe Arts will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for this purpose. Bring equipment (easels, etc) and supplies (tables and chairs provided). There will be no instructor but what can be learned from each other will be invaluable. There is a plan to eventually have life drawing from time to time for those who are interested (we will be the models). A Gathering of Art is open to the public to join in, observe, and ask questions. There is no charge for these gatherings, but a donation to NTA would help defray the costs of supplies for kids art Saturday programs. Donations are tax deductable. Call to Artists for Horse HeART Art Exhibit
Through Tuesday Feb. 23
Visual artists are invited to submit images of original equine-themed art work for consideration for a special event celebrating the spirit of horses and artists. Hosted by Art Attack Gallery in Incline Village, Horse HeART will include an art exhibit with opening reception, art competition, and fundraiser to benefit the Let ’Em Run foundation, a nonprofit founded by country-western singer Lacy J. Dalton that works to preserve wild mustangs.

In this spirit, Horse HeART seeks equine art that evokes qualities shared by mustangs and artists: resilience, inventiveness, power, beauty, wildness, freedom, and intelligence. Eligible categories include all forms of painting, photography, and sculpture. Deadline for applications is Tuesday, Feb. 23. The call to artists has already drawn outstanding entries from notable regional artists as well as artists from beyond the Reno/Tahoe area.  The exhibit will open with a wine and chocolate reception on Saturday, March 13, and will run through April 12.
