A mixology of high altitude gadfly gossip for oxygen-starved brain cells.
Kings Beach is finally seeing some action with the long waited — and disputed — passage of the three-lane alternative, as well as the Kings Beach Redevelopment Project. The $48 million project will redevelop Kings Beach and provide for better walk-ability. Like the West Shore, parts of Kings Beach have a wonderful “old Tahoe” feel but in my opinion, it is severely neglected and in need of a lot of work. But this diamond-in-the-rough is now holding court and getting some attention (for more, see p. 13). In addition, the new Kings Beach Housing NOW project hopes to remove dozens of substandard cabins and buildings and replace them with eco-friendly, community home sites for the local workforce. Both of these projects are set to reduce tons of sediment from flowing into the lake. You go KB! We’re looking forward to seeing you blossom.
By the time you read this, Valentine’s Day will have probably passed and you either had a lovely dinner at one of our many fine eateries or maybe gorged on chocolate and champagne. For the rest of us, we’ll celebrate “Singles Awareness Day” just fine. Apparently, VD was created to rub salt into the wounds of the single folk but we laugh in the face of such adversity. Plans for my busy day will include buying cat treats at Scraps for my beloved fur bucket, enjoying a relaxing massage at Lighthouse Spa in Tahoe City, shopping for a trendy trinket at Closet Cowgirl in Truckee, then blowing a wad of dough at joints from Bite in Incline Village to the River Grill in Tahoe City. Then, I will return home and desperately search craigslist and Match.com so I don’t have to do this all over again next year!
