Squaw Valley USA Buys Village from Intrawest
At the end of January, Squaw Valley USA completed its acquisition of the Village at Squaw Valley.

“We are pleased to integrate the Village at Squaw Valley with our own operations, to provide a seamless resort experience for our guests,” said Squaw Valley USA Chairman and CEO Nancy Cushing. “It is a reversal of philosophy, as Squaw Valley Ski Corp has not operated a lodging property for 30 years.”

When Squaw opened in 1949, it ran a small, 50-room lodge that was occupied during the 1960 Olympics. The operation of the property ceased in 1979. The Village at Squaw Valley was developed by Intrawest in 2002. The transaction includes all of Intrawest’s real estate holdings and operational assets, including lodging operations at two condo-hotels and commercial assets whose tenants include six restaurants, 20 retail shops, and a full-service spa.

North Tahoe Playground Receives Grant

The North Tahoe Public Utility District received a Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation Grant from the Melanie Jackson Donor Advised Fund in the amount of $5,000 for playground equipment replacement at Tahoe Vista’s North Tahoe Regional Park. The total needed for the project is $140,000, with more than $45,000 plus materials donated to date.

This fall, the pavers (donated by Reno’s Sierra Summit Landscaping) that make up the playground’s paths and walkways were installed. Installation of swings and other smaller equipment may commence this spring and summer if enough money is raised.

The commission has set up a Facebook group, “Let’s Build a Playground at the North Tahoe Regional Park,” for those who are interested in being kept informed on the project’s status.

Tax-deductible donations can be made through the Friends of the Park Fund set up with the TTCF. Info: (530) 587-1776, ntpud.org/friendsofthepark

Placer County Offering Help to Areas Hit by Foreclosures
Placer County is launching the federally funded Neighborhood Stabilization Program, which seeks to reduce the number of vacant, bank-owned houses in unincorporated neighborhoods. The program includes renovating the homes if necessary, and helping residents with limited incomes purchase the houses. Loans also can be made directly to homebuyers to purchase houses already listed for sale directly from banks.

To meet moderate income limits, a four-person household must have an annual income of no more than $87,350. Participants do not have to be first-time buyers.

To be eligible for acquisition, bank-owned homes must have been vacant at least 90 days.

The federal government designated which areas are eligible to participate in the program based on such factors as foreclosure rates and the numbers of subprime mortgages in each area. In North Tahoe, unincorporated areas eligible for participation are Kings Beach and Tahoe Vista. Info: (530) 745-3150, placer.ca.gov/departments/ceo/redevelopment/housing.aspx#nsp
